"Afi Kiddi", Dora, Benni and Ditta in front of a Cusco map on our first excursion
Photo taken from our hotel room - very basic living conditions for the majority of people
The entrance to our hotel - looked good but not very sound proof
Dora buying lama keychains from a beautiful little girl
And wow, did we go through many of these markets - they offered an abundance of local handicraft
A typical image of a mother with her children - waiting for a very crowded bus
Ditta and Dora on one of our bus tours
Gudrun with most of Cusco in the background
Dora with "Cristo blanco"
And she got to hold her first Lama
The little lama wanted to get away
What a beautiful creature
Dinner on the balcony overlooking Plaza de Armas
Dora got this photo of one of the older women braid - this was very common
Life is hard
In "school" learning about the origin of chocolate
The beans come from this kind of fruit that grows on the trunk
That is how the beans look like when fresh
We learned about the process and got to taste dried beans
Afi Kiddi / Kristjan roasting the beans
After roasting we got to peel and separate beans and shell
Working the beans in a mortel
It was a pretty hard work
And that is how our beans looked like afterwards - some got it to a real paste
We had tee from the crushed beans
Our teacher making hot chocolate the original way
And here we have the ready made chocolate
We had a great selection of spices, nuts etc. to add to our chocolate bars
Benedikt adding the ingredients
Kristjan was very inventive and tried almost everything
Filling the forms with chocolate - we all chose dark
Some were tidier than others
Dora´s bars looked delicious
Actually they all did :-)
Dora got her Peruvian paparazzi moment
She was photographed with a lot of random people
After a while they even pulled her dad in and kept on taking photos
Now some families we do not know have photos of Dora and Benni in their photo albums
One night we went to a Peruvian restaurant - becoming more and more adventures!
We can´t say that we have been thrilled with the food all the time
A beginning of a very interesting and a bit scary day in Cusco
We witnessed a pretty loud demonstration gathering
People, mainly men, were marching in to the square
And now we saw that Cusco also has a lot of law enforcement - they looked ready for anything
People carried cascades with dolls representing certain people in government
They also put photos of politicians they want out of power on big rats
There was a lot of talking and shouting
Don´t know if this is a good way of getting your point across
They ended by putting the doll and rats on fire - it was pretty intimidating
In the middle of everything we saw these two little girls
I should have known better than to take a photo of them - everything has its price
When everything ended peacefully the local police was very happy to be able to leave
We were sitting at Starbucks and witnessed when they crammed way to many onto one truck!
Sightseeing around Cusco
A painting of Cusco and how all the temples in the country were aligned in from the middle - from Cusco
Kristjan found a donkey that he liked
Looks like Dora wants to give him a kiss
Listening with attention to our tour guide
Having fun on Inca ruins
The entrance to "mother earth" was through a "snake"
A long snake
Dora felt it was "creepy" inside "mother earth" - not surprisingly as this was where offerings were made
She was more happy as a tree :-)
Saksaywaman - the head of the Cusco puma
Amazing size of the stones
Sunset at Saksaywaman - the locals had fun calling it "sexy woman" so everyone would remember the name
Relaxing
We kept on exploring into the evening
We also learned about how the alpaca wool is coloured in a natural way
And, wow was it colourful - all natural!
