Salt Lake City and Convention

The main reason for coming to Salt Lake was to attend the Nu Skin Global Convention.  We arrived a few days early to catch up with a few friends. We were very happy to meet up with Benedikt´s sister right away as she and her friend Lilja came also early for the convention.

On our first day in Salt Lake we met with a very good friend from our early Nu Skin days, Anjanette Osgood.  We all, the three of us, Helga, Lilja, Anjanette, her husband Drew and their three girls went hiking in the mountains east of Salt Lake.  We went to a skiing area about 1200 meters above see level and started off at a place called Silver Lake.  It was cold but incredibly beautiful and refreshing.  The next day we were all invited to a dinner at Anjanette and family in West Jordan and she was so nice to prepare an all-vegetarian dinner for us.

Our next visit was also with a dear friend, Sandie Tillotson. This year we have been so fortunate to spend time with Sandie on different occasions and circumstances. We had the privilege to stay with her in Hawaii in the most extraordinary beach house on Kauai.  She had also been to Iceland in the summer where we had a chance to show her some parts of our special country and now we visited with her in her home in Sandy and she took us to a family gathering at her daughter Trina for a Halloween pumpkin carving.

Dora had done the pumpkin carving the year before at her aunt Lilja´s in Providence but for Gudrun and Benedikt this was a first time thing.  We were pretty proud of our production even though it looked very premature compared to the advanced carving of the “pros” J

The rest of the week was very focused on the Nu Skin Convention.  We attended a ribbon-cutting event of the new Innovation Center in Provo.  An absolutely amazing building – without doubt the coolest headquarters of any company we know.

One evening we attended the Force For Good gala.  This is an event we never miss when coming to Convention.  It is both fun and encouraging to see how generous the leaders are, best seen by the amount raised for FFG through entrance fee and auction – this year was exceptional with an amount over $2.2 million collected.  On top of that just over 40 families in SAFI (an initiative in Malawi) got sponsorship, and we decided to sponsor two of those families for a year.

The Convention itself was the biggest we have ever attended with over 15 thousand attendees.  It was as spectacular as ever and we felt honored to be on stage three times, getting awards for different things.  First for being a long term Nourish the Children ambassador and Chief ambassador, then for being a re-qualified Team Elite and last for becoming a member of the 5 million dollar circle – that is people that have earned more than 5 million dollars in lifetime earnings from Nu Skin.

Dora attended some of these events with us and having her with us at the FFG gala was very special and we felt she understood very well the importance of giving back and doing good.  For one of the evenings she went out with Sophia, Sandie´s daughter and they had a really nice girly time together.

The absolute highlight of the Convention was on the closing night when the entertainment turned out to be Seal.  He was just in one word “Amazing”!  He ran around and sang into the crowd of people and every single person in the room felt he was singing to them personally.  What a performer!

After the Convention we said goodbye to all our European teams that headed back home and we met with the small team that had planned to spend the next week together.  We went back to Provo and had lunch with Steve Lund and Truman Hunt and met as well with more of the management team in the spectacular new headquarters.
